Artist Statement

Let your mind wander and tend to your subconscious.

I am an impressionist abstract painter working with acrylic and mixed media on canvas, paper, and board. My practice is rooted in an intuitive exploration of memory, perception, and the human condition, expressed through layered textures, fluid forms, and a constant negotiation between control and spontaneity.

Shaped by early experiences of instability, I developed a sensitivity to the underlying emotional states that exist beneath what is visible, and a need to find moments of stillness within them. These do not appear as direct narratives in my work, but as impressions informing how I approach form, surface, and space.

Alongside this, my way of thinking developed outside conventional academic structures, leading me towards a more intuitive and non-linear process. Rather than working towards fixed outcomes, I allow forms to emerge gradually through observation, repetition, and response.

Although largely self-taught, my practice evolved significantly during a year spent assisting Muzaffar Ali. His multidisciplinary approach expanded my understanding of art beyond medium towards something more fluid and lived, shifting my focus from making individual works to developing an ongoing, process-led practice.

My work often draws from fragmented memories and shifting perceptions of place, shaped in part by an early sense of distance and dislocation; it does not seek to depict specific places, but instead constructs emotional landscapes, spaces built from fragments of memory, sensation, and shifting perception. Alongside painting, I incorporate video drawn from moments I have captured over time memories of people, places, and lived experiences of calm and chaos layered subtly to extend the emotional register of each piece.

I am interested in the tension between chaos and stillness, and in the subtle moments that exist between the two. Through this, I explore how meaning is not fixed, but continuously shaped by attention, context, and internal state.

Underlying my practice is an ongoing inquiry into what it means to live with a sense of purpose, and how this is shaped by the environments and systems we exist within. I am particularly interested in how contemporary modes of living can prioritise external measures of value, and how this can distance us from more instinctive ways of understanding fulfillment.

At its core, my work is an exploration of seeking, of navigating uncertainty, and of recognising the subtle conditions through which a sense of meaning or quiet happiness begins to emerge. Rather than offering conclusions, I attempt to create spaces that invite pause, reflection, and a return to more instinctive ways of understanding experience.
